Recently the Tolly Group did a study on Avaya IP Office versus Shoretel for a total cost of ownership over 5 years.

Cisco releases new Flip Slide HD Video Camera

Cisco finally announced the newest member of its Flip family, the Flip Slide HD. This newest Flip camcorder sports a three-inch screen and stereo speakers for playing back your videos as well as 720p video, and 16GB of storage for recording up to four hours of video. Cisco spends some more cash and picks up Starent Networks

Mobile data traffic is expected to more than double every year through 2013 and in keeping up with their buying streak Cisco is buying Starent Networks. The transaction should be complete by mid 2010 and the company will become Cisco’s new Mobile Internet Technology Group giving the company a major leg up into the mobile data market.

Cisco has proven its capability to successfully move into new markets such as VoIP and server virtualization and become a major player quickly.

Cisco offers $3 billion cash for Tandberg

Cisco is making a bid for Tandberg to consolidate its teleconferencing strengths.

Tandberg is a "global leader in video communications, including a broad range of world-class video endpoint and network infrastructure solutions with intercompany and multi-vendor interoperability." Basically it makes a suite of video-conferencing solutions that are slightly smaller-scale and cheaper than Cisco’s existing large-scale "telepresence" conference room-sized systems.

The point of incorporating Tandberg’s capability into Cisco is to give a broader range of options to its potential customers, and it gives Cisco access to Tandberg’s own software solutions for managing and creating connections between video conferencing devices at different locations that use different tech. Cisco’s making an all-cash offering to buy all Tandberg’s outstanding shares, and it’s been recommended by Tandberg’s own board of directors, meaning it’s likely to go through sometime early next year assuming it passes through the regulatory process without a hitch.
