Sprint EVO 4G Is Coming Soon!

Sprint Nextel Corp.’s first phone to run on its high-speed 4G network will hit stores on June 4.

The Sprint phone, dubbed the Evo 4G and made by HTC Corp., will sell for $199 with a two-year service contract. It will work on a network that runs on next-generation WiMAX technology and is being built out by Clearwire Corp., a company in which Sprint owns a majority stake.

The Evo 4G phone runs on Google Inc.’s Android software and will support video chat over either Sprint’s older 3G network or Clearwire’s 4G version, which the carrier demonstrated in New York on Wednesday.

Android overtakes Apple in US smartphone market

Google’s Android OS surpassed Apple in US smartphone market share during the first quarter of 2010. According to the NPD Group, Google now enjoys 28 percent of the smartphone market, earning the company the second-place spot behind Research in Motion (36 percent) and pushing Apple to third place (21 percent).
